  • I think my economics teacher is a commie.  We hit a chapter on the public sector and of course taxes came up.  He went on a rant about how those who make more should be taxed more heavily simply because the fact that they make more money means that each dollar should be worth less to them.

He even gave the example that it would be fair to tax someone making 36,000 at 10% while taxing someone making $4 million at 90%.  His reasoning was that it was okay since the richer guy would still be making more than the less wealthy man.  That sure doesn’t leave much room to encourage entrepreneurs to take risks if you ask me.

I think I may have ticked him off by asking him to give an example of a socialist or communist country functioning well for an extended period of time.  Meh, it’s not my fault he couldn’t come up with an answer.

  • My first class of the semester was last night.  It felt good to start getting back to class.  It gave me a great reminder of a really crappy part of computer science courses: few to no good looking girls.

Unfortunately, my class is stuck with the “no” instead of the “few”.  Out of a class of 20 we have 2 females plus a female teacher.  One of the girls is easily over 250 and the other one is chubby, yet she somehow still has a complete lack of curves.  Both of them took a few shots to the face with the bat o’ ugly.  The professor is good looking though.  Of course she’s married as well.

The course itself seems like it shouldn’t be a problem.  The lack of eye candy is depressing though.

I’m tearing my way through the sixth and final season of Oz.  It’s still an exciting show; but I guess it’s better to end when things are still going well.

  • After my last entry aradne asked me about the scary factor in being a parent.  I told her that I could write an entire entry on that question and here it is:

A big part that freaks me out is that she’s a girl. I’m a boy who grew up with five younger brothers; I don’t know a thing about raising a girl. Since I was the oldest I was forced into helping to raise my brothers; but the rough and tumble world of boys is a lot different from the world of Barbie and My Little Pony.  Even in my extended family there isn’t a single “girly girl” so I guess it may not matter too much because she’s probably destined to be pretty tomboyish anyway.

There’s also the common protection fear.  I can’t be around her every moment, so others will be responsible for her safety.  She’s already been injured once due to the negligence of another and when I first got the news I immediately wanted to grab the person and just shake her until her brain turned back on.  If anything really serious ever happened I don’t know if I’d be able to control myself if the person was near when I received the news.

The biggest part for me though is money.  I’m afraid that I won’t be able to provide her with the things that she wants.  It takes a lot financially to raise a child, that’s why I didn’t intend to have a child until later in life; but now I don’t have that choice and I fear she’ll be disappointed in the future because of it.  I want her to have every opportunity in the world and I’m scared that I might be able to give her that.

  • I know it’s been a little while since I’ve posted; but in my defense things have been quite busy.  It’s been hard just to find enough time to do my normal housework.

This last week was even a 6-day workweek due to my department being in charge of the company picnic.  We got there at eight in the morning to start setting up and we did leave until after five.  I hate doing cleanup with a passion because most of it wouldn’t be necessary if people weren’t such slobs.

I also have some big news that more than makes up for my recent absence.  The test results are in, I have a daughter:

    2 month 1resize

Her name is Kylie.  I’ve been helping her mother out for a while now, including watching her while her mother is at work and I’m not.  Lately this has meant every other weekend as well as a weeknight every now ad then.  I try to spend time with her when I can; but the distance issue can sometimes be a problem (especially when gas costs are figured in).

This movie has taught me at least one thing; Jesse James is a crybaby.  He can only live the way he does because of his fans and his fame; but he spends most of his time bitching about both of them.  He keeps complaining about being in the public eye, yet he continues to place himself there.  For someone who supposedly hates being famous he sure works hard to keep getting his name out there.

As for his “problem” of being rich and famous, I’m sure plenty of people would love to take that off his hands if they could.

  • Once again I have classes at CC for this fall.  My original classes were dropped due to non-payment because the school’s VA rep had failed to meet a deadline, thus screwing me out of a decent amount of money.

I was tempted to just put filler classes in my schedule; but I managed to resist the urge and I dug through until I found a couple classes that I could make work (both day/time and subject matter).  Thankfully I was able to still get into the computer programming class I wanted.  At a less desirable date and time; but at least I was able to get it. Instead of the second Accounting class in their series, I’ll be beginning the first Economics class in their series.

    Training Log – Friday

I almost went the lazy route and did nothing due to some residual sorenes, mainly in the serratas region.  Fortunately I overcame the urge and got myself to do some work that wouldn’t directly involve that area.

    Bent Over Rows
    Deadlifts
    Good Mornings
    all 3×5

    Training Log – Saturday

I didn’t mean to take Saturday as a rest day; but it just happened.  It wasn’t until the next day that I slapped my forehead in frustration at having forgot to workout the previous day.

    Training Log – Sunday

Rapid Ascent lifts again.  Bumped up the weight as prescribed and ended up failing the military press on the second and third sets (at 3 reps both times).  Next time I’m going to try moving front squats to the end.  It seems like I waste too much arm energy getting the bar set.

    Training Log – Monday

Alternated between Sumo deadlift high-pulls to failure and pullups to failure.  All reps were done explosively.  I was done after eight and a half minutes.

  • I have little sympathy for those with massive mood swings.  It¡¦s incredibly annoying to be speaking with someone and for no reason they suddenly get all sad or even start crying.  A part of me just wants to reach out and shake them while telling them to grow up and act like an adult.  Unless you¡¦re a child I see no reason for sudden outbursts.

We¡¦d think someone was out of control and possible crazy if he had a habit of flipping out and screaming at people angrily, an outburst which substitutes sadness for anger deserves the same disdain.  We¡¦d tell the angry person that he needs to control himself, why shouldn¡¦t the same be said to the sad one?

I’d hate to be flying out of Heathrow today (or anytime soon for that matter), talk about a boring flight.  Not beign allowed to bring anything except for “absolute essential” on board the plane.  I can just imagine the fits that are being thrown by women not allowed to bring their purses.  Everything brought on board must be in a clear plastic bag, pretty easy to tell who is on the rag I guess.  If you have a baby they’ll let you bring a bottle; but the security people have to taste test it first (no I’m not kiddign about that one).

    Training Log ¡V Yesterday

Bas Rutten¡¦s MMA workout, boxing portion with heavy bag 10 two-minute rounds

I was still a bit sore from lifting the previous day; but I had already planned to do some heavy bag work.  Boy has my conditioning suffered.  I remember when I could do a full set of three-minute rounds without being too tired.  This time I was exhausted with just the two-minute rounds.  I¡¦ll have to stick with the twos for a little longer because even though I made it through I was dropping my hands and more than a few of the punches were weak.

Today will be a rest day.  I always try to schedule an off day after hitting the bag due to the stress on the joints as well as the general physical effort.

  • I’d like to thank the VA liason at my school for screwing me out of my gap payment by not reporting my continued enrollment to the VA like she was supposed to.  Therefore, the money that I was depending on to pay for my books and tuition is now gone.  I’ll have to take the money out of my normal pay, which means there will be much scrimping and saving.

Of course even with sacrificing normal spending I still won’t be able to keep the classes that I originally picked (the second half of the last accounting course and business law).  So thanks a lot, I hope you die in a fire.

In case you missed the new tagline, I’m also going to be using this as not just my blog; but my training log as well.  Don’t worry, it’s not my plan to go all training.  I plan on having some personal details in each post as well.

The training part may not be too exciting to read; but I really don’t care because it’s there for me not for you.  Having everything written down by date means that it will be easier for me to look up my past workouts without having to worry about losing a notebook.  Although I still have a notebook for immediate record keeping.

    Training Log – Yesterday

    Rapid Ascent Trio
    Front Squats
    Military Press
    Power Clean

All lifts with the same weight and all 8/6/4.  One minute rest periods only.

Still trying to perfect my technique since it’s been a while since I’ve been allowed to lift by the doctor.  I originally  tried too early on my own and the increased blood pressure caused the septoplasty area to bleed, thus lengthening my recovery time.

The only lift I had problems with was the front squat, mainly because I’ve never done it before.  The other sleight issue I have with it is that my arm length requires me to use the cross armed stance instead of the olympic hold.

  • If you can read this then that means I’ve discovered how I can post from work.  It’s a bit slow because I have to connect to the site by first accessing my home computer from work.  There’s obviously some lag to deal with and the display isn’t as good as it would be in person; but it works.  Or at least I’m pretty sure it works.

  • I finally developed a couple disposable cameras that have been laying around forever.  One even had a couple of Hawaii pics on it.

I took may car into the shop to get the struts replaced and then discovered that it would need about $2,500 in suspension work.  So instead I went looking for a different car.  I finally found a decent deal on a Grand Am.  I can’t get it plated and such until Wednesday, so I still driving my “bottom out on the slightest bump” Taurus until then.
